1. DATE AND TIME OF BIRTH
-------------------------
DATE
Every one is agreed that Rasool Allah (SAW) was born at Monday.
It is ijmah that the date was 12 Rabi ul Awal(Islamic Calender). which is 571 AD(Christan calender) and 1st Jaith 628 Bakarmi(Hindi Calender). (some people also say that its 9th Rabi ul Awal(Islamic Calender) and some says its 20 August 570 AD(Christian calender). But 12 Rabi ul Awal is accepted by most of ummah's Alims. That year is also called Aam-Ul-Feel (year of the elephant), cause that year governor of Yaman, Abraha attacked Holy Qaba with elephants and his whole army was destroyed by little birds.
TIME
According to present Pakistani time..it was 4:20 AM that day in Makkah. According to the other time system of Saudi Arabia it was 9:57 AM. And according to hindi time it was 13 hours and 16 min pass till 1st Jaith started.
2. BEFORE BIRTH
---------------
Naratted by Hazrat Qab al Ahbar
"ofcource Allah told Hazrat Mosa the time of birth of Rasool Allah(SAW). and he (Mosa(AS)) told it to his people that when that(a particular) star will move from its place, it will be the time of birth of Rasool Allah (SAW). This news and will was traveling among jews from generation to generation"
(Alseerat tul Nabviea, Dahlan 1:40)
A Jewish scholar came from the Country Shaam and settled in Makkah. He had the knowledge of holy books. He use to say
"Oo People of makkah! very soon a kid will be born among you. Arab and rest of World will follow him and he will won the rest of world. His time of birth is close. Who ever will get that time and will obey him, he will be successful and who ever will go against him, he will fail"
(Alseerat tul Nabviea :41)
Narrated by Ibn Ishak in Seerat Ibn Hasham that Hazrat Amina said
"Between the condition of sleeping and awakening some one came (angel) and said "do u know you are gonna be the mother of king and Rasool of this ummah"
(Tabqat ibn Saad 1:98)
Narrated by Hazrat Amina
"Came to me who was meant to come (angel) and advised me that when he(SAW) will be born then recite this dua (prayer) "i give him under the safty of Allah against all hatters and bad". And then name him "Muhammad" because in torah and injeel(bible) his name is Ahmad. All on earth and skies will prase him. He(SAW) is named Muhammad in Quran and Quran is his book"
(Seerat Halbia 1:46)
Narrated by Hazrat Amina (mother of Rasool Allah (SAW))
"i was pregnant but i never felt any difficulty from start till end"
(Tabqat ibn Saad 1:98)
Narrated by Umru bin Qatiba that Abo Naeem told me that his father was a highly knowledgeable person and he told that when time of delivery of Hazrat Amina was close then Allah ordered angels to open all the heavens and skies doors and ordered them to go there, so they came and started congratulating each other. Mountains of the world went higher with pride, seas get wild and waves went high. and earth people started congratulating each other, every angel came there and devil was hang upside down in BahreKhazir tide in 70 chains and other devils were also tide and that day Sun was given more light and 70,000 hoor's were standing in air waiting for Rasool Allah (SAW) to be born. In honor of Rasool Allah (SAW), Allah ordered whole women of the world to born boys that year. Thus when Rasool Allah (SAW) was born, whole earth was fill with noor and angels
congratulated each other and in every sky a pillar of diamond and a pillar of Zabarjar was placed, because of whom every thing was lightening. Thus these pillars are very famous in skies which Rasool Allah (SAW) noticed at the time of miraj. He(SAW) was told that these pillars were placed in the happiness of your birth. That night Allah placed 70,000 trees of perfumed "kastoori" at the shore of Qosar which will be use to perfume people of heaven. That night ones in skies asked for blessing from Allah. Stone idols were fall by there faces.........."
(Al khasis ul Qubra, 1:47)
Abo Naeem naratted from Hazrat Abbas(RZ)
"Noor of Rasool Allah(SAW) in Hazrat Amina was knows because that night every animal of the tribe Quresh was able to speak and it was saying "Swear of Rab e qaba! Rasool Allah(SAW) is born and he is peace for the world and the highest point for the universe. Slave jinns of the witches of arab tribes were unable to come to them. There knowledge was taken away......animals start running from east th west to congratulate. Sea creatures also congratulated each other. It was said in earth and skies "be happy blessed and merciful Rasool abo qasim's (father of qasim) time of birth has come"
3. MIRACLES AT TIME OF BIRTH
----------------------------
Hazrat Amina stayed pregnant for 9 months. During this time she never feel any problem like pregnant women feels. His(SAW) father already died. Angels said "Ya Allah! your Prophet will be born an orphan". Allah said "I will be his Savior and helper". Every one (angels) get blessings by his birth. Doors of heavens and skies were open.
Hazrat Amina says "After 6 months of pregnancy, a person came in dream. He touched with his foot and said "Oh Amina! you are conceiving the most respectful person of the universe. When he will be born, name him Mohammad(SAW)."
Then she says, "when the time of birth came near i heard a voice which make me frightant, no one was near me. Then i saw some one rubbed a white feather like thing to me and because of that all the fear was gone. I was feeling thirsty, at that time i was offered a juice, white like milk which i drink, and because of it every thing was lightening. Then i saw tall women who
gathered me. They were looking the daughters of the trip Abd Manaf. I was surprise because of there strange incidents. Then i saw silky dress between earth and sky and some one said "Take the kid and hide him from people". Then i saw some people who were standing in air carrying silver bottles. Birds gathered my house. There peeks were of Zabarjad and wings were of diamonds. Allah took all the curtains away from my eyes. I saw east and west and i saw 3 flags. 1 in east, 1 in west and 1 was placed on the roof of Qabba. When the matter of giving birth was complete, i saw that unique child. He was in Sajda (Prostration) and his finger was raised up. like some one is praying with full concentration. Then i saw a white cloud came down and hide the baby, he was out of my sight. I heard some one saying "Take Muhammad(SAW) to east and west, and take him to seas also, so that every thing will recognize his name and personality, and also that he(SAW) is a destroyer too, and will destroy all the SHIRK.
Then he(SAW) appeared in front of my eyes. He(SAW) was wearing a white dress at that time and under him was green silk. He(SAW) was holding 3 keys made of pearls in his hands and some one was saying Mohammad(SAW) has captured the keys of prophet ism, success and airs.
Then another cloud appeared and voice of horses and birds were coming out of it. That cloud also hided him(SAW), and went out of my sight again. I hears some one saying "Take Mohammad(SAW) to east and west and the places of prophets. And introduce Genie, animals, birds and every type of spiritual creatures to him. and give him properties of Hazrat Adam, .....tears of Hazrat Nouh,....friendship of Ibrahim, Hazrat Ismael's tongue, Hazrat Yakoob's good news,Hazrat Yousuf's beauty, Hazrat Dawud's voice, Hazrat Ayoob's patience, Hazrat Yahya's piousy, Hazrat Esa's generosity and characteristics of prophets.
He(SAW) again appeared in front of my eyes. This time a green silky peace of cloth was in his hand. Some one said "congratulations! Mohammad(SAW) has captured whole world and all creatures are under his control. Then i saw 3 people. one was holding a silver bottle and other was holding white silk which he oppend and took a stamp out of it. It was too shiny that one feels blind. It was washed 7 times with the water of that bottle and then marked it between the shoulders of Rasool Allah(SAW) and then put it in silk cloth again. Then he(angel) hide him between his wings for some time and then give him(SAW) to me"
(Al Khasis ul Qubra, 1:47-48)
Narrated by Hazrat Amina "i saw tall women, they look like from the tribe of Abd Manaf. They gathered me. I have never seen women with more bright faces. One of them came forward, i rested at her (like we take our back with chair) and then other one came forward and offered me a drink which was whiter then milk, cooler then ice and sweeter then honey. she said with love "drink it" and i did. Second said "drink more" and i did. and on my asking they told me that they are Hazat Asia and Hazrat Mariam and with them are hoors of heaven"
(Al Mohaib, 1:112)
(Anwar al Mohamadia, 33)
There was trembling in holy Qaba for 2 days and 2 nights (qabaa was filled with almost 365 idle gods at that time) and all the idles in it fall down. This was the first sign of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
Nosherwah (king of Iran) build a castle which was said to be faultless. That castle trembled too heavely that it had cracks in it. And 14 of its pillers (or windows) fall down without any weakness.
In Faris fire used for worshiping was extinguished. That fire was burning from 1 thousand years. Not only that but the fire in all the worship places was extinguished and no one was able to burn the fire for worship that night.
Most of the people of the world worshiped idle gods at that time. Among the leaders of quresh ..Warqa bin nofel, zaid ibn e umar and Abdullah bin Habsh went to there idle god and found it fallen down on its face. They tried to lift it up on its feets and it fall down. And it happened 3 times. Then there was a voice from that idle that "A Child has born and with his light (noor) East and West are brightened"
(Seerat e Halbia vol 1)
River Sawa went dry.
water in Samava Valley went dry.
Before the birth of Rasool Allah (SAW), that year Arab was under heave crises of hunger and thirst because of no rain. But with the birth of Rasool Allah (SAW) every thing changed. it rained. land went green and crops were healthy.
"Thats why that year was named "the year of victory and happiness" because before that Bano Quresh were in crises. Then land was green. Trees were green and there was satisfaction and wealthiness every where"
(Seerat Halbia, 1:47)
Prophet Moses (A.S) informed his nation about the birth of Prophet Muhammad (pbup) that "when a (certain) star will move from its place that will be the time of the birth of the last prophet. Bani Israel (Prophet Moses's Nation) passed this information from generation to generation. Thats why when Prophet Muhammad (pbup) was born there was a sudden rush in Jews and they were going from one place to other to ask about the new born baby. Jew Scholars use to tell arabs that very soon a child will born and whole Arab will follow him and he will conquer rest of the world. Who ever will follow him will be succeed and who will go against him will fail. His time of birth is near. After birth of Prophet Muhammad (pbup) Hazrat Abdul Mutlab went to the Jewish scholar who came from the country Shaam and sateled in Makkah. He told him "The great child which i told u about has born. Last night the star which was suppose to give his news is also raised"
(al Seerat ul Nabvia, 1:41)
Narrated by Abo Naeem and Bahaki that Hazrat Hassan bin Sabit(RZ) told that "i was 7 or 8 years old. And i could understand talks. That morning a Jews was standing on a rock and was saying loudly "oh group of Jews, please gather. i have a great news" when people gathered he said "The star of Ahmad has raised. That Prophet is born tonight (which every one was waiting).
(Al Mohaib al Askalani)
(Al Khasis al Sayoti)
Narrated by Imam Hakim that Hazrat Ayesha(RZ) said "There was a jew in Makka, at the night of birth he came out of his house and asked tribe quresh "is a Kid born among you?" people said no. He said
"Listen to me carefully! today last prophet of this ummat is born. and oh tribe of Quresh! he is from you"
"There is a seal of prophetism on his shoulders. These things are mention in old books. go to your houses and ask"
Qureshi people were surprised. all of them went home and very soon they all came to know that Allah has granted Abdul Mutlab a grand son. and on his birth too many un natural things and miracle happen. They very soon came back to him and told him that "you are right. Abdul Mutlab has a grand son". He said take me to his home i wanna see with my own eyes. He went there and saw Rasool Allah(S.A.W). checked his seal of prophetism and said with sadness "Swear of Allah! Prophetism has went away from bani israel"
(Seerat al Nabvia, Dahlan 1:41) "oo tribe of Quresh congratulate a new life to you. because of him(S.A.W) you will get that greatness that from east to west he will be famous"
4. AFTER BIRTH
--------------
Hazrat Abdul Mutlab(grand father of Rasool Allah(SAW)) was in Qabba that morning and suddenly stone idols fall down and a voice start coming for Qabba.. "Mohammad(SAW) is born and non believers will fain in front of him"
(al Seerat ul Nabvia, 1:41)
He was thinking of these unusual things mean while a person came and told him that Allah granted him a grand son. He went to home Hazrat Amina told Hazrat Abdul Mutlab all the strange things, advices and good news which she has seen

DIGGING OF THE WELL
SACRIFICING ABDULLAH IBN ABDULMUTTALIB
INCIDENT OF ELEPHANTS (FEEL)
We all know the famous story of Ismaeel’s (AS) mother when she was left alone in the dessert where she ran between Safa and Marwa and water came out. She said, ‘zamzam, which means ‘stop stop’. The complete narration is in Bukhari.
The last tribe to leave Arabia was the tribe of Jurhum. They had to leave because of a war, but before they left, they hid the well so their enemies wouldn’t find it.
So the well had been lost for years. Later, Abdul Muttalib saw a dream when he was taking his nap, 4 times in a row. A handsome man will appear and called him to ‘dig up’ with 4 different names (dig up that which is good, dig up that which is beneficial) finally ‘dig up zamzam’. So he knew what the dream was about.
Abdul Muttalib only had his son Haarith at that time. He started digging up with his son until he found the well. When he discovered the well, the first thing to come out of his mouth was, ‘Allah Akbar’ because he still believed in Allah.
After that discovery, all Quraish came to claim the water, and it became a matter of life and death. Abdul Muttalib didn’t mean to hold the water for himself but he wanted to be the controller of the well. At that time, he made du’a to Allah that if He gave him 10 sons, he will sacrifice one of them for Allah in front of ka’bah!
At that moment, the leaders of Quraish decided to resolve the situation and find a solution. As superstitious they were, they decided to go to a fortuneteller who could guide them how to divide Zamzam. She was a woman whose exact whereabouts were unknown. So they all left together to find her. On the way they ran out of water, and they were about to die. So they asked Abdul Muttalib what they should do. He suggested that each one of them dig his own grave and wait as death reaches them one by one. As a person dies, his companion will burry him until the last one is left and before the last one dies, he himself will lay down in his grave and wait for his death in there!
All of them acted upon the suggestion. However, Abdul Muttalib himself couldn’t watch everyone just sit there and wait for death. As mentioned earlier, Arabs were not coward. So he said, “We cannot do this. Let us die searching for water. We cannot die like cowards sitting here!”
As he got back on his camel and his camel started to get up, the camel hit the back of ground and water gushed out. All the Quraish took this miracle as a ‘sign’, and gave Abdul Muttalib the leadership and gave him the control over Zamzam.
SACRIFICING ABDULLAH IBN :ABDULMUTTALIB
Eventually, Allah (swt) blessed him with 10 sons. Harith from one mother. Zubair, Abdullah and Abu Talib were full brothers. Abu Lahab, from another mother. Abbas and Dhirar. Hamza, Muqawwab and Hajjal from another mother. He had 5 wives.
And he had 6 daughters: Saffaiya, Umm Hakim, Atikah, Umaima, Arwaa and Barra.
Of these 16, Abbas, Hamza and Saffiya accepted Islam. For others, scholars have differed. And Allah knows best.
When all of Abdul Muttalib’s sons grow up and reached their full youth, he explained his dream to them. This reflects what was discussed of Arab’s characteristics, honesty and true to their words. He had made a promise years ago and when the time came to fulfill it, he stood true to his words.
So he drew lots among his sons and Abdullah’s name was chosen. Abdullah was not only the most beloved to Abdul Muttalib but he was most beloved to all of the Quraish even.
Hence, when people of Quraish saw Abdul Muttalib walking towards the ka’bah with Abdullah, they inquired of the situation. Upon being told of his promise, they advised him to find a ‘solution’. They suggested to consult a sorcerer again. When the matter was asked, she suggested that lots should be cast between Abdullah and 10 camels and if the arrow falls against `Abdullah, 10 more camels should be added and so forth until his Lord accepts them and the arrow falls against the camels. The lot was cast and it fell against Abdullah, then 10 more camels were added and once again lot was cast and it fell against Abdullah again, this kept happening until 100 camels were added and then the arrow fell against the camels. However, Abdul Muttalib was not satisfied and added another 10 camels, and drew the lot again. Once again, it fell against the camels, but he wanted to be more sure so he did this 2 more times until there were 130 camels and the camels were duly sacrificed.
130 camels at that time was a fortune but Abdul Muttalib sacrificed that to fulfill his vow!
STORY OF FEEL
Abraha was the governor of Yemen. He was Christine and he was under Najashi who was the king of Abyssinia. When he heard of ka’bah and how all Arabs visit there every year, he became jealous and wanted to invite all Arabs to come to him. He built a grand and magnificent church thinking that Arabs would come to his house. Although, his was indeed grand and magnificent but Arabs were not attracted to it neither paid it any respect. In fact, when one of the Arabs heard that Abraha was taken by pride, to put Abrah’s pride down, he went to that house and urinated and defecated in it and then ran away after this.
When Abraha saw this he became enraged and furious with anger and decided to destroy Arab’s house, ka’bah, as a retaliation. He gathered up a strong army of Habashis and Yaminis, who were physically very strong people. Moreover, he took an army of elephants. Some scholars say one elephant, some say 8 and some say more. The largest of these elephants was Mahmood who was a very well-trained animal.
As they marched against Ka’bah to destroy it, some of the Arab tribes, within the outskirts of Meccan, tried to stop Abraha but there was no way they could defeat elephants, they were not trained to fight elephants. Also, physically Yaminis and Habashis were very strong. So a number of tribes tried to fight but could not.
When the army reached Taif, unfortunately people of Taif didn’t have none of this gheera/jealousy for their icon of worship. Rather, not only they cleared the way for the army, they even offered to help Abraha and provided him with a guide named Abu Rughaal.
Abu Rughaal took them towards the direction of Ka’bah and they encamped outside Mecca. He died when they were camping outside of Mecca. Basically he did his dirty job and then Allah Willed that he died right there. His grave became an icon afterwards, where people would come and stone his grave out of hatred. Even the Jahiliyyah Arabs considered him a ‘traitor’ and stoned his grave as a sign of ‘hatred’. Not a single group would pass by except that they would stone his grave.
Going back to the story of Abraha, when they were camping outside Mecca, there they captured a large group of animals, 200 of those belonged to AbdulMuttalib. Next, Abraha demanded the leader of the city because he wanted to tell him that they just want to attack the ka’bah not the city, so if the Meccans leave them alone they wont even attack Meccans. AbdulMuttalib came with the messenger and story goes like this:
“Abdul Muttalib entered the tent where Abraha was sitting. When Abraha saw him, Abraha was afflicted with awe and veneration. (Narrator said) Abdul Muttalib was a grand, magnificent and powerful man In other words; he was a leader even by looks.
When he came in, Abraha was too embarrassed to allow him to sit at his feet and he didn’t want to invite him to his podium because of the wazeers around him, so Abraha came down to Abdul Muttalib and sat with him on the ground. And said, ‘What do you have to say.’ He spoke with respect. Abdul Muttalib said through the translator, ‘I have come to you to talk to you about my 200 camels to give them back to me.’ Abraha said, ‘When you came in you had the awe and respect of my heart, now you have lost all of that.’ Abdul Muttalib asked, ‘why’. Abraha said, “I have come to attack your house, the house of you God, and the house of your forefathers, the icon of your religion, and you come to me talking about camels and sheep. I have come to destroy your house of worship and you come to me talking about camels and sheep!”
Abdul Muttalib said, ‘I am the Rabb (Lord) or controller of my camels and as for the Lord of the House, he will protect it, I don’t have any power to do that.’
And to be honest, Abdul Muttalib’s response was a response of a wise man. He saw that the Arabs tried to defeat Abraha and they couldn’t do that so there was no point fighting him. They would all die in the process. So after making a long du’a in front of the ka’bah to protect it, he asked the people of Mecca to leave the city and allow Abraha to do what he wishes to do. If Allah wants to destroy them He will destroy them.
Then after the city was empty, Abraha aligned his army and ordered Mehmood to attack. This elephant even refused to stand up! This was the first time Mehmood had disobeyed Abraha. They tried to whip him, (the narration says) that they even brought an ax and struck him with it in the head, and they brought coals and ambers from behind him to burn him to go towards Mecca, the elephant would not even budge. They turned the elephant to the left, it ran; they turned it to the right, it ran; they turned it back to Yemen it ran; but when they turned it towards the direction of ka’bah, it stayed where it was.
This is referred to many many years later in a hadeeth in Sahih Bukhari, when the Prophet’s camel Qaswa stopped in the mount of Hudaybiyyah, the companions said, ‘Qaswa has become stubborn and arrogant.’ The Prophet (pbuh) said, ‘No, Qaswa has not become stubborn and arrogant, rather the One who stopped the elephants has stopped Qaswa.’
So while Abrah’s army was trying to attack, (Abdul Muttalib and Arabs were watching from on top of the mountains), hours and hours passed by trying to get the elephants to move, and it was then when all of a sudden they see in the horizon, flocks of birds, flocks of birds they had never seen before. When they came, each bird had 3 pebbles, one in its jaw/peek and two in each hand. When this pebble touched a human being, that person would start to dissolve, literally dissolve, body parts would fall off from him. Some of them died immediately and some of them died after a long time. In fact, Abraha himself didn’t die immediately; he died the most painful death. When they were going back to Yemen, he was sick and his nails would be falling off one after another and blood and pus would come out of it. He died in the journey and didn’t even taste the comfort of his house again.
It is reported in Tirmidhi: Qubaas ibn Ahsam, a companion, was once asked, ‘Are you bigger or the Prophet? (anta akbar min rasul)’ He replied, “No, the Prophet (pbuh) is ‘akbar’ (bigger) but I am older (i.e. I was born before him). I remember my mother taking me to the place of the elephants, and I could see the elephant dung had turned/become green.” [How much the companions respected the Prophet (pbuh) that he didn’t called himself ‘bigger’ then the Prophet out of respect!]
Likewise, Aisha narrated when she was a young girl, she could remember (she was born in Mecca) seeing the guide and care-taker of the elephant, blind and old begging the people for food (they had no food in Mecca) at the base of the idols.’
Benefits of these 3 incidents (Story of Zamzam-well, Abdullah’s sacrifice, & Feel):
- It shows the status of Ka’bah in the eyes of Arabs, so much so that they died defending it and this ultimate respect made Abraha jealous of It.
- It is a natural tendency of men, Muslim/non-Muslims to fight and defend for their ideals and values. When the mushrikoon were prepared to die defending what they believed in, how much so we as Muslims should be prepared to sacrifice!
They believed in Ka’bah as holy and didn’t allow anyone to desecrate it, should we not take a lesson from it. In their kufr and in their shirk they died defending what they believed in, should we not have more ‘gheerah’ more ‘right’ defending our religion!
- Defending our beliefs, our religion earns the respect of all of mankind. Look at Abraha, he was trying to destroy the ka’bah but he lost respect of Abdul Muttalib when he refused to defend his beliefs. Defending our beliefs, sacrificing wealth, life, will not only earn Allah’ respect but the respect of humanity.
- Status of traitors is always humiliating. They are always despised in life and death. Look at the grave of Abu Rughaal, even the women and children would throw pebbles at his grave. Traitors are always despised in this world and in hereafter. And this is something in our religion of Islam as well, there are many ahadeeth and narrations about traitors and what happened to those who give up their values and ideals for the sake of this world.
- Blessed lineage of Prophet Muhammad: this is something we don’t understand in our times but there are family’s lineages that are respected more. Similarly, Arabs had their ultimate lineage, and the lineage was Quraish and among Quraish was Banu Hashim, and within Banu Hashim was Abdul Muttalib. How did they earn this status? Through these incidents. For Abdul Muttalib to dig up the well of Zamzam raised up his ranks; story of the graves and water coming from under his camel, raised up his ranks; praying in front of ka’bah and requesting to evacuate the city raised up his ranks; and by raising the rank of Abdul Muttalib the ranks of his progeny were raised too. Abdullah, the one chosen to be sacrificed was ransomed by 130 camels, raising his own rank and status although he died at a young age but that incident raised his rank among Arabs.
- Two ancestors of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) were ransomed and saved by Allah (swt): Isma’eel (AS) and his father Abdullah, first and the last of his ancestors. Ismaeel was ransomed by a divine ram, and to this day we celebrate that ritual. Abdullah was ransomed by 100 camels [originally 100].
- The fact that the Prophet was born in the year of elephant was an indication of his coming. In fact, some narrations say that Amna was pregnant when this incident happened. In fact, Abraha’s defeat in itself is a sign for imagine what would have happened if Abraha had succeeded and Meccans were taken as slaves; what would have happened if Amna was taken as slave girl instead of a free women, imagine how the Prophet would have been raised! Imagine what if she had died in that war or if there was no ka’bah.
- Likewise and the final point scholars have derived is the wisdom behind Abraha being a Christian and jahiliyyah Arabs mushrikoon (pagans). Allah (swt) didn’t show izzah (honor) to neither Christians nor mushrikoon yet He still protected His house Alone. He didn’t allow mushrikoon to defend against Christians, they all ran away. On the other hand, Abraha was a Christian, a follower of Najashi, and he was destroyed as well. This clearly shows that Allah is neither pleased with mushrikoon nor Christians yet He will preferred and perfected His religion and that was with the coming of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). Mushrkoon were not worthy enough to protect the ka’bah because they were pagans and Abraha, despite the fact that he was a Christian was not worthy of showing respect to the ka’bah as he tried to destroy it. Who is there who is worthy of ka’bah? None of the two who are present, i.e. somebody is about to be sent who is worthy of showing respect to the kabah and that person was Prophet Muhammad (pbuh). He (pbuh) came and gave ka’bah Its due rights and respect that neither mushrikoon nor Abraha could give it.
And this is the divine wisdom in the story of Feel.
Ibn Taymiyyah said: “Saving of kab’ah is an indication of blessings not only of the ka’bah Itself but also of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) because at that time he was in the womb of his pregnant mother. So Allah protected the Prophet and protected the ka’bah through the incident of ‘feel’ showing you that something is about to happen. Indeed, the incident of Abraha is a miracle and it is worthy of mention and that is why it is mentioned to this day.”
What is Prophet Muhammad (pbuh)’s lineage? Arabs of the old were very preserving of their lineage. That is why if we open up the biography of any famous companion, we will find that his generation has been persevered sometimes up to 15-20 generations, the names of his fathers and forefathers all. Unfortunately, in our times it is not known.
As for our Prophet (pbuh), 21 of his forefathers’ names have been authentically preserved:
Muhammad ibn Abdullah ibn Abdulmuttalib ibn Hashim (banu hashim—founder of tribe) ibn Abdu Manaf ibn Qusai ibn Kilab ibn Murra Ibn Ka’ab ibn Lu’aie ibn Ghaalib ibn Fihar (he was Quraish so his descendants are known as Quraish, most respected tribe), Maalik ibn Nadhar ibn Kinana (famous person whom Prophet mentioned in a hadeeth) ibn Khuzaima ibn Mudrika ibn Ilyaas ibn Mudar ibn Nizaar ibn Ma’ad ibn Adnan (forefather of the vast majority of Arab tribes).
Even Imam Bukhari has this much lineage in his Saheeh.
Adnan is the direct descendant of Isma’eel (AS). According to some scholars only 7 people are between them, but it is not confirmed. However, Adnan was fairly close to Isma’eel, how many generations are between them, we don’t know their names and we are not sure of the quantity.
Isma’eel son of Ibraheem son of Azar (as mentioned in Qur’an—in books of history his name is Taanikh) of the descendants of Nuh. How many generations are between Azar and Nuh, again we don’t know. However, between Nuh and Adam were 10 generations which is authentically narrated in a narration by Ibn Abbas in Mustadrak Imam Hakim.
So, we have a lineage here. We don’t have a direct lineage all the way to Adam but here is what we have:
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) to Adnan: a continuous name which is confirmed.
Adnan to Ismaeel (AS): we don’t know.
Ibraheem to Nuh: we don’t know.
Nuh to Adam: we don’t know the names but the quantity.
As for the chart that shows a lineage all the way from Prophet Muhammad to Adam (AS) it has no sources in our history, rather it is taken from Christian and Jew sources. It is not to be found in our ahadeeth.
Why is there such a big deal about this? Simply because we have to be very cautious about what we find in our religion to be true and what we are not certain about. What we find in our religion then we are sure about it and there is no doubt about it. Something clearly stated in Qur’an and Sunnah, we don’t use our intellect for it. If we find something against Qur’an and Sunnah then we reject it and we stick to Q & S.
In this particular issue problem arises when modern anthropologist tell us that men has been around for a very long time. How long has the homo sapien species been around? There are scientifically-authentic evidences that say that there were men 20-30000 years ago. There are certain drawings in caves of France, when carbondate them, they go back almost 25,000 years ago!
Christians and Jews have precise chronology of events and they precisely date back time of Jesus, Moses, Ibraheem, Nuh and Adam (peace be upon them). Jewish calendar is based on the beginning of earth, which only go back to 6000-7000 years ago i.e. time of Adam! This clearly contradicts the modern science.
As Muslims, on the other hand, we don’t need to worry about it. Why? Because our Qur’an and Sunnah don’t tell us. It is eluded because there is nothing explicit. Allah says:
“Wa Quroonum baina dhalika katheera—and many were the generations that came between them.” [still searching for the verse no.]
When Allah (swt) is using the word many then how many can there be! 10-15 like Christians allege? Yes the Qur’an says that there were many many generations that came and went.
When we have a scientific evidence and it doesn’t contradict Qur’an and Sunnah, then there is nothing wrong in accepting it. However when it goes against Qur’an and Sunnah then we reject it outright. We also know from Qur’an and Sunnah that generations of old lived for hundred of years, Nuh (AS) was 950 years old, Adam lived for more then 1000 years! So if this is the case then it is doubtful that a calendar may go back only 6-7000 years to time of Adam, and Allah knows best.
Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) said in Muslim:
“Allah purified and chose Kinana out of all descendants of Isma’eel and He chose Quraish from among children of Kinana and He chose from Quraish, Banu Hashim, and He chose from amongst Banu Hashim, me.”
In another narration he (pbuh) said, “I am the best of the best of the best.”
So it was, is and it will always remain the most noble lineage ever known to mankind. There is no lineage that is more superior, more blessed and more honorable then the lineage of our Prophet (pbuh). This is one of the miracle of Allah (swt) because when a person of status and nobility speaks, it is not like when anybody speaks!
When Muhammad came forward with a message, then his message had to be heard. That is why when Ja’far bin Abu Talib spoke to Nijashi, he described the coming of Prophet saying:
“…then Allah sent us a Prophet. We knew his lineage, we know his background, and there cannot be any room to doubt where he was coming from.”
Likewise, when Mughairab bin Shu’bah stood strong in front of the Emperor of Sassinads, Yazdijaar, he said:
“Allah sent to us a person who was well knows. We know his lineage, we know his face, we know his birth, his land is the most sacred of all lands, his ancestors were the best of all our ancestors, his house (household) is the best of all our households, his tribe is the best of all tribes, and he himself as a person of all of us.”
In fact, when a noble man stands up and he is willing to give up his nobility for something greater then that, then that is one of the greatest signs of his sincerity. Had the Prophet stood up and said, ‘I want to be a king’ NO ONE could have stood in his way. But for him (pbuh) to give up that power, to give up that kinship and call to something greater then that is one of the greatest signs of his sincerity and truthfulness.
He was not calling to revive the kingdom of his forefathers, he was not calling to revive the glory and honor of Quraish, had he been doing so, not only he would have been excused but he would have been followed and obeyed!
Who could deny this lineage? But the fact that he (pbuh) didn’t do any of the above and he turned it aside and he called to another message, a GREATER message, the worship of Allah, what more indication of his truthfulness and sincerity could there be?!
For him, to give up the most respected/most valuable thing to the Arabs and to call to something more noble then that, this was one of the greatest signs of his prophet-hood and that is why this was mentioned by so many companions.
This is the Sunnah of Allah, that whenever He (swt) sends a messenger, He makes them the best of the best and He always gives them support of their own community. Some of the community rejected, yes, but there were others who would support him.
For the Prophet to come at a time in jahiliyya Arab, when a person could be killed for his slightest crime, where a shepherd could be killed if his flock wandered in the territory of another and a hundred year war would be waged because of that, what could protect one in that society; after Allah, it was the lineage and status.
Notice, when Meccans agreed to boycott Prophet’s family, his family supported him. Even though they didn’t believe in Prophet, Banu Hashim didn’t hand him over to Arabs. Because of this reason, Arab tribes couldn’t kill the Prophet. If they were to kill him, it would have become a matter of honor for Banu Hashim. And that is why Abu Jahal planed that one member of each tribe would kill the Prophet (pbuh) so Banu Hashim could not wage a war against them for they would have to fight entire Arab tribes!
Allah rewarded the people of Quraish for their sacrifices in protecting Prophet (pbuh) by making them the leaders of our Ummah. As the Prophet (pbuh) said in Muslim:
“Leaders should be/shall be from Quraish.” And this is the commandment of Prophet Muhammad (pbuh).
Some men of the city of Makka went on a trip to Syria. On the way they met a monk. Four of these Makkis decided to stop for a while to talk with the monk.
In those days monks lived in places where there were very few people so that they could have quite to worship Allah. They also were people who read books and knew many stories. Only a few Makkis knew about reading. All they knew about was trade and enjoying themselves. They knew they would hear interesting and entertaining stories from the monk.
After talking for a while the monk asked the men, " where are you from ?"
They answered, " we are from Makka.",
The monk then told them, " Allah will send a prophet to Makka soon."
The four men continued on their journey thinking about the things the monk had said. Each of them wished that the new prophet would be his own son.
Abdulmuttalib was asleep in Kaaba. He had a strange dream. He saw a tree growing until it reached the sky. The tree had branches that spread to the East and the West. It appeared that a very bright light was shining on the tree. Abdulmutalib saw the Arabs and the non-Arabs bow to the tree. The tree continued growing larger, higher, and brighter. Then he saw some people from Quraysh holding to the branches of the tree, while other Qurayshis tried to chop down the tree. A very handsome youth stopped them from chopping down the tree. Abdulmuttalib saw himself put his hand out to grab the tree, but he could not reach it. He woke up from his sleep frightened.
Abdulmuttalib sat thinking of the dream and what it meant, but he could not find an explanation for it. The next morning he went to the priestess of the Quraysh to ask her to explain the dream. The Arabs always asked the priest or priestess for the explanation of dreams.
When the priestess saw Abdulmuttalib, she saw sign of worry on his face, so she asked, "why do you look so worried:"
Abdulmuttalib answered, " I had a dream that frightened me." Then he told her all about the dream.
When he finished, she said, "if your dream ever comes true, then one of your sons will control the East and the West. All the people will follow him."
Abdulmuttalib was pleased with what the priestess had told him. Later when he met his son Abu Talib he told him about the dream and what priestess had said. Then he said to his son, Abu Talib, " I hope you are the one the priestess meant in her explanation."
But the intended one was not Abu Talib. The one the priestess mean was the yet unborn grandson of Abdulmuttalib. Abdulmuttalib had grandson named Abdullah who was married to Amina, daughter of Wahb. Amina was expecting a baby. Before the baby was born, Abdullah had gone on a trading trip. He became ill on the trip and had died. Abdullah never saw his son.
During her pregnancy, Amina felt no pain or discomfort. She had always heard women complaining about the hardships of pregnancy, but she felt very well. During these months Amina had many dreams. One night in a dream she saw a light coming out of her. The light was shining on castles of Syria.
Another night she heard a voice in her dream. The voice said, "Amina, you are carrying the greatest man in the world. When you give birth, give him the name, Muhammad and tell no one about this dream."
Amina woke up and looked around but there was no one in the room. She tried to go to sleep again but she was still thinking about what she had heard in the dream.
It was time for Amina's baby to be born. She gave birth to a beautiful, clean baby boy. Since the boy's father had died months earlier, Amina sent the news to her son's grandfather, Abdulmuttalib. Abdulmuttalib was sitting in the Kaaba when the news came. He was delighted. He went to Amina and carried the boy happily to the Kaaba. When he brought the baby back to her, he said, " I have named him Quthm."
Abdulmuttalib had a boy named Quthm but he had died when he was nine years old. That made Abdulmuttalib very sad. So when Amina gave birth to a boy, Abdulmuttalib wanted to name him after the dead boy.
Amina had to tell him, " I was ordered in a dream to call him Muhammad." Abdulmuttalib picked up the baby, kissed him and said, " I hope that my grandson, Muhammad, will be a great man."
On the seventh day after Mohammed's birth, Abdulmuttalib ordered animals to be slaughtered and asked the people of Makka to come to a feast. After everyone had eaten, Abdulmuttalib brought out his grandson, Muhammad, to show the people. Everyone said that he was such a beautiful baby. The people also felt sad for the baby because he was an orphan. His father had died before seeing him.
One of the men asked Abdulmuttalib, " What did you name him?" Abdulmuttalib answered , " I have named Muhammad."
Another man asked in surprise, "why did you name him Muhammad? No one in your family or people was ever named Muhammad."
Abdulmuttalib did not want to reveal that Amina was asked in a dream to name him Muhammad, so he said, " I wanted Allah to praise him in Heaven and I wanted people to praise him on Earth."
When the visitors left, not one of them realized that this orphan baby was the one chosen to lead them from darkness to light. They did not know he was the answer to Ibrahim's prayer the day Ibrahim was ordered to build the Kaaba:
"Our Lord, send unto them a messenger from among themselves to show them your signs, to teach them the Qur'an and wisdom, and to purify them. You are All-Mighty and All-Wise." (The Qur'an Al-Baqara 128)
